Let Colorado’s Outfitters be Your Guide
BY AMY PUCHATY
The secret to an unforgettable Rocky Mountain adventure starts with finding a great outfitter.

Guides are seasoned pros who live and breathe the lifestyle and can point you to the best recreational activity around.

Not sure where to start? Here we highlight outfitters in Colorado’s resort markets, including Vail Valley, Winter Park, Summit County, Crested Butte and Telluride. Thrill rides, scenic trails, and mountain discovery await!

Nova Guides typography
Situated in historic Camp Hale, Nova Guides has access to a trail system that spans 55,000 acres of terrain with over 100 miles of groomed trails.
When it comes to the Vail Valley, few outfitters have been guiding in the area as long as Nova Guides. As a go-to outfitter for 34 years, Nova Guides offers snowmobile tours in the high country of the White River National Forest, using historic Camp Hale as a base lodge. Camp Hale — which served as WWII training grounds for the 10th Mountain Division — is located 30 minutes from Vail and Beaver Creek, just south on Highway 24 between Red Cliff and Leadville. From here, you can see and learn about the Ghost Town of Gillman, Lovers Leap, and the town of Red Cliff, made famous for its green bridge. Tours in Nova’s fully-enclosed heated Snowcoach are also offered. To provide you with the full scoop, we went straight to the source and chatted with Sales and Marketing Executive Nate Caretto.

o say that 2020 has changed things would be an understatement. This year the world has encountered events that will alter the course of history. Largely due to the pandemic, the way people interact with each other, how businesses operate, and societal norms have all been significantly modified.

Aside from the obvious health and safety measures, such as masks and social distancing, that are now commonplace in our everyday lives, one of the biggest changes we’ve seen is a particularly strong shift to focusing on our lifestyles and finding our passion. Personal space no longer means just keeping your distance from strangers in public places, but rather creating your own safe haven at home.

Crested Butte
The Town of Crested Butte is one of Colorado’s largest National Historic Districts and looks much like it did a century ago when it was a thriving coal mining town. The historic town is bathed in antique lamplight, dotted with old Victorian false fronts, and filled with spirited friendly locals.

Once the snow falls, Crested Butte transforms into a winter wonderland—an ideal destination for people who enjoy the outdoors, love to ski, and prefer getting off the beaten path. Though only a 35-minute scenic drive from the Gunnison/Crested Butte Regional Airport, it is removed from the highly trafficked ski resorts situated along I-70. Crested Butte’s location attracts devoted skiers with a passion for perfectly powdered slopes, making it easy to understand why it’s often called the “Last Great Colorado Ski Town.”

Summit County
Located in the Heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains is Summit County, a winter paradise.

Breckenridge Ski Resort is based in the historic mining town of Breckenridge which was established in 1859. Located less than 2 hours from Denver, Breckenridge is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The resort has over 2,900 acres of skiable terrain and 187 trails to explore, including four award-winning terrain parks and an 18’ halfpipe. The highest chairlift in North America resides at the Breckenridge Ski Resort, rising over 12,800 feet. Breckenridge’s charming Main Street offers exceptional dining, shopping and a notable arts district.

Copper Mountain is home to both the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center and the Woodward Training Facility. The resort features over 2,400 acres of skiable terrain, 150 trails and five bowls that can be enjoyed by all ability levels. Copper is also host to the FIS Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup and the U.S. Grand Prix Tour where the best riders and freestyle skiers compete.

Telluride
The historic town of Telluride, designated as a National Historic Landmark District in 1964, sits near the end of a picturesque box canyon surrounded by majestic 13,000- and 14,000-foot peaks. Just a mile and a half long by six blocks wide, the town is a menagerie of colorful Victorian homes, superb restaurants, independent boutiques, art galleries, outfitters, and historic buildings, including iconic structures like the County Courthouse.

Often recognized as one of the best ski towns in the U.S., Telluride is home to the world-class Telluride Ski Resort, also known as “the most beautiful place you’ll ever ski.” The ski resort is unique for its out-the-front-door access from both Telluride and Mountain Village, with two chair lifts and the Gondola within walking distance from anywhere in the town of Telluride, as well as three chair lifts and the Gondola accessible from Mountain Village. The Gondola – the only free public transportation system of its kind in North America – links the towns of Telluride and Mountain Village in a spectacularly scenic 13-minute ride, providing easy access to an array of adventures year-round.

Vail Valley

THE VAIL VALLEY is a destination where visitors from around the world come to enjoy the beauty of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, featuring two of the most popular ski resorts – Vail and Beaver Creek.

Nestled between the Gore and Sawatch Mountain Ranges lies the Town of Vail, located just 100 miles west of Denver. Sitting at an elevation of 8,150 feet above sea level, Vail has grown into one of the most famous alpine destinations in the world attracting outdoor enthusiasts from all over. Winter season turns Vail into a winter wonderland. Skiers and riders of all levels can take in Vail Mountain’s awe-inspiring views as there are over 5,200 acres and nearly 200 runs of skiable terrain that can be accessed by 31 lifts. Vail’s legendary back bowls – Sun Down, Sun Up, Tea Cup, China, Siberia, Inner Mongolia, Outer Mongolia, Pete’s Bowl and Blue Sky Basin, offers vast alpine fields of fresh, deep powder to explore.

Winter Park
FOR TWO YEARS IN A ROW Winter Park has been voted “#1 Ski Resort in North America” by USA Today and it’s easy to see why. Located just 65 miles from Denver in Grand County, Winter Park is the closest major destination resort to Denver International Airport and is home to enormous peaks and spectacular views as it sits at an elevation of over 9,000 feet above sea level. The resort’s access to unspoiled wilderness offers some of the finest skiing in the winter season. There are more than 3,000 acres of skiable terrain and seven distinct territories that include world-class glade skiing, panoramic bowl skiing/riding, groomers and the world-famous bumps of Mary Jane.

Winter activities also include tubing, snowshoeing and ski biking. Winter Park’s Coca Cola Tube Park features four individual lanes, exciting banked curves, and a covered conveyor lift ride back to the top. Several guided snowshoe and ski biking tours are available to choose from. Throughout the winter season the Winter Park Express Train delivers passengers from Denver’s Union Station to Winter Park Resort.

A Conversation About Consumer Preferences and Real Estate’s Evolution
B

uying a house can be a challenging process under normal circumstances, but buying a house during a pandemic presents a whole new set of hurdles to overcome. LIV Sotheby’s International Realty virtually sat down with the mastermind behind Sotheby’s International Realty’s (SIR) Marketing, Chief Marketing Officer, Brad Nelson, to talk about what’s happening in the evolving real estate industry and how the iconic brand is pivoting its approach to meet the demands of consumers.

Real estate is an essential business. While brokers may not be saving lives, they are in many cases changing them. Especially now, our homes are our mission control centers from which we rule our own worlds. In this day and age, we work, learn, shop and entertain all from home. Knowing that, if a business wants to reach a consumer, it needs to be accessible from anywhere, including the couch.
